When you’re stuck inside during winter break, sometimes you need ideas for things to do, especially if you’re a preschooler. The movies and games grow old and your child just wants something fun to do.
The blog No Time for Flash Cards has a list of twenty-five activities you can do with your child during winter break!
If you get any snow this year, one activity that would be super fun and easy—and one that gets your child’s creativity outside rather than on your living room wall is snow painting.
You will need: four spray bottles with water and a few drops of blue, green, red and yellow food coloring in each bottle. Beautiful designs can be made by letting your child simply spray his choice of colors on the snow. Depending on the age of your child, even a turkey baster can be used to draw shapes and write out words. You can even show your child how mixing colors can make new colors; for example, red and blue make purple.
This one is equally easy—a snowflake for toddlers! All you need are small cotton balls, construction paper, and children’s glue.
Paint a star of glue on a piece of construction paper, sort of like an asterisk. Then, place the cotton balls on the glue, and there you have it! A snowflake as unique as all the others.
Hole Punch Snowflakes
Another kind of snowflake just requires paper, a hole punch, or scissors. You remember the paper snowflakes you made as a kid, right? Well, now it’s time to pass on the tradition.
Take some paper and fold it up a few times into a square. Grab some scissors, or a hole puncher, and cut little shapes along the seams. Then, when you unfold it you’ll find a magical snowflake appearing. Your preschooler will be amazed.
